I feel this is so important and needs to be said. You do not need makeup to be beautiful.
Affirmations are nothing new. They are becoming more and more popular to use as the rise of self-development becomes more and more apparent.

I posted awhile ago about a toner DIY that I loved for my skin! However, as I started practicing hot yoga more and winter set in, it wasn’t quite enough to give me clear and moisturized skin. I searched for toxin free skincare products that would also help my face and combat some of the acne I was experiencing. I have since found a routine that I adore and my skin appreciates! The best part about this routine is it is still quick and easy, two pre-requisites for anything I do in the beauty or skincare department.
My home is slowly filling up with plants on every ledge and windowsill. This was not always the case, in fact I had quite the black thumb for a long time. To be honest I am not super savvy still on how to keep plants that are not meant for our climate alive during frigid winters and humid summers. However, after I learned all about the benefits of plants in your home (hello air purifiers!), I was desperate to get some hard to murder plants in my home.
To help with the transition to natural shampoo I went to my pantry and got two of my all-time favorite heavy hitters when it comes to toxin-free living: apple cider vinegar and baking soda! So just like with my DIY makeup remover when I became aware of all of the toxins in my makeup and skincare products I immediately made a huge shift in my personal care routine! I have skin that at nearly 27 years of age is still prone to breakouts around my time of the month or when I am stressed. I don’t love switching products because that usually triggers a breakout but knew that I had to make a shift.
I cannot even begin to tell you how obsessed I am with Branch Basics. During the beginning stages of my life overhaul, I was searching for all the things non-toxic to make myself feel healthier. I started first with my diet and then quickly moved into personal care items like makeup and lotion.
When I started learning about all of the toxins that I was unknowingly ingesting via makeup and skincare products I immediately started to make some changes in my beauty routine. I have shared the how and the why behind bulk shopping before and how crazy passionate I am about it. Here are some more tips and tricks to help make an impact (or in this case less of an impact) while grocery shopping!
My husband and I just got back from a wonderful 4-day trip to Portland, Oregon. Typically, when traveling, I need to be as comfortable as possible. Meaning- not too hot or cold, not hungry, hydrated, etc. If you saw my older post (read HERE) about our successes and failures with zero waste travel I was determined to reduce my waste this go around. That meant being really intentional and planning out our travel and also our time in Portland.
If you go too far down the zero-waste rabbit hole you are going to come to a point where you begin to beat yourself up for not “doing enough”. You will criticize your efforts as falling short and begin to feel helpless.
Social media is really good at showing the highlight reel, and a row of bulk items in mason jars is just so aesthetically pleasing (my own pictures included).
Do you ever find yourself standing in front of your closet and getting so frustrated because you just have nothing to wear? This used to be me more times than I can count. It is my joy to share how, in my experience, to make the most out of bulk shopping. Also, snag this freebie to help keep track of your grocery list and bulk items!
Composting is probably one of the easiest ways to reduce your garbage. Since beginning to compost we have gotten rid of our kitchen garbage can and instead have a small bin that basically houses food packaging that cannot be recycled. We take our garbage out maybe every 2 weeks and
Transitioning to a zero-waste lifestyle is tricky. It does not need to be made trickier by buying into the fear driven and guilt-ridden mentality that sometimes accompanies it. Oftentimes it can feel overwhelming to tackle your entire lifestyle and make changes that’ll better the world. Below are a few of my tips to help tackle a zero-waste lifestyle with a positive mindset.
Let's talk about dranks friends. Beer is one of the biggest waste creating ways to get a buzz. Between the cans, the bottles, and the plastic cups a single night out can have big impacts on our environment!
The best way I know how to set myself up for success is to always have my zero waste to go kit on me. A zero waste to go kit is a collection of items that you have with you or in your car at nearly all times in order to eliminate extra waste when out to eat or shopping. Below you will find my core zero waste items and then some things that I add on when the situation calls for it!
