My New Low Tox Hair Routine

I switched to low tox, all natural shampoo and conditioner back in January and my hair freaked out. No one told me that when you switch to natural shampoo all the chemicals and junk will have built up over time and there will be a serious transition period where your hair feels and looks real gross.

 

Here’s what I experienced:

Sounds super pretty right? No! It was enough to have me running back to the chemical laden stuff! To counteract the grossness and to help with the transition to natural shampoo I went to my pantry and got two of my all-time favorite heavy hitters when it comes to toxin-free living: apple cider vinegar and baking soda! I am actually transitioning away from my natural shampoo once it runs out and sticking with just baking soda and ACV so the steps below are with that in mind!

 

Steps to all natural, great feeling and looking hair:

1: Pour a few teaspoons of baking soda and water into a bottle and mix, then pour over your hair. The baking soda is going to help break up some of the gunk in the pores on your scalp so take some time to really massage it into your hair. Be careful as baking soda can be very drying so you’ll want to only work it into your scalp and not the ends of your hair! Rinse well!

2: Mix about 1:4 parts apple cider vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Squeeze out excess water, spray ACV mix all over your scalp and ends, make sure it is thoroughly coated; sectioning your hair out is a great approach to even coverage! Let it sit for a minute or two and then rinse out well.

That’s it! Please note that this method is NOT for everyday use. I wash my hair 2-3 times a week and that is great but it should not be done more than that!
